SHE’S A BEACON OF HOPE

Founder & Caregiver:

Nomute Futshane is a Beacon of hope for abandoned, abused and orphaned children in Langa, one of the country’s oldest townships in the Western Cape. Despite her own challenges, Nomute (58) has taken children into her three roomed shack in Nkanini. Former president Nelson Mandela’s poignent words that. “there can be no keener revelation of a society’s soul than the way in which it treats its children”, Put Nomute into action. Her cultural group Vuka Nomtobhoyi, trains the children traditional in traditional dance, poetry and drama. She also ensures that everyone is fed, has school uniforms, and attends school.

HIVE OF ACTIVITY

Nomute relies on the charity of tourists visiting on the township to support the children. Her own children are grown up and have their own homes. She started fostering children in 1995 when their plight touched her and has not looked back. She says some of the children have been abused by their fathers and some were abandoned by alcoholic and HIV positive parents. Today, Nomute’s home, sandwiched between sheebens, is a hive of activity. The home has no flushing toilet or running water, but Nomute is undeterred. The home if furnished with bunk beds for the children who are mainly girls.

NORMAL LIFE

Tens of children from the community also streams in the learn cultural activities and get soft porridge. They affectionately call Nomute, "Smuderi. “I love children,” says Nomute. “I used to give them soup and they grew in numbers and then orphaned children came to stay with me.  The biggest challenges are drugs and alcohol in this area and children are easily influenced, so I use these activities to instil discipline,” she says. “Some of the children are poets, some sing and others do drama. I let them do these things so that they can grow up in character

FASTING REVELATION:

"As People We Are Not Born to be Rich, Wealthy, Selfish, Acquire Academic Degrees, Diplomas, B-Tech, Fleshy Cars & Houses,

BUT to Serve God and the People We Live With, by Loving One Another as Jesus Christ Loved Us".

Over Time, I PRAYER TO GOD TO REVEAL

My Main Purpose in Life "according"to His Will.

As a Born Again Christian I was skeptical in Tithing in a Church due to the prevalent mismanagement of Funds in Churches nowadays.

I pledged to myself to use of my Tithing Funds to buy Food for the Poor. With the help of my Daughters Qhama & Qhayiya and a good friend of mine Mr Zolani Ludidi, we collectively distributed  Food to the Poor in the Streets of Langa Township whilst Praying for the Poor during this Giving.

After some time, while distributing the Food in the Community as usual, some Community Members referred us to a place called "Vuka-Nomtobhoyi Cultural Dancing Group" now known as "God's Grace Child & Youth Care Centre", which housed Orphans, when I entered the House, right THEN I knew it, I said:

"THANK YOU LORD FOR REVEALING THE ANSWER TO MY PRAYER".
